What's Old, from 2001, at the Steiner Archive

[--------------------------------------------------------------]

There are a lot of changes going on around the Steiner Archive: new formats, new links, additional features. Sometimes it's hard to find out just what is going on! Well, here is what you've been looking for — a list of the changes, additions, and coming attractions that occured at the Archive in 2001.

Some 2001 Changes...

. The Chronological List of Lectures Database. (as of 12/01/2001)
Now it has been expanded to include lecture names, and some new ways to access the data: by date, city, country, GA number, and code. There are a number of things you can help us with by:
  • Checking the “About the Chrono List” link on the database pages to help us determine some references
  • Looking in the different Forums to find pleas for help in gathering and verifying the data
  • If you can verify a lectures date, time, title, or any other pertinent information, we want to hear from you
The goal is to have a complete reference to ALL of Steiner's works in as many languages as possible — all in a database for easy retrieval. We intend to fight whatever negative influences this electronic age has brought about by using these tools in a positive way! Three steps forward ...

Let us know what you think — your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
. The eGallery — Fine Art Presentations. (as of 04/10/2001)
We are pleased to announce, after over a year of preparation, that we can now officially open the new and improved eGallery to the public. It is our Fine Art Presentation site.

We have added many new Artists, and Categories to the site: categories in the areas of Art Movement, Artists by Century and Ethnicity, and some Special Collections. All artists are recognized as true artists, however, there are some artworks that parents may feel are unsuited for their child's viewing, especially in the Fantasy and Pin-up Collections. Please be aware.

So, have a visit, and let us know what you think — your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
. The Rudolf Steiner Archive Honor System GiftPage. (as of 02/21/2001)
Many of our visitors have requested a way to help out with the work being done at the Archive — now you can help us reach our financial goal.

As our readership grows (15 to 20 thousand visitors each day), and the content of the Archive expands (we expect to have over 500 lectures on-line in the next 2 months), additional resources in computer hardware and Internet bandwidth are needed.

When we first started presenting Steiner's works on-line in 1992, our connection to the 'Net was $50/month — it is now just a little shy of $2000/month. Just for bandwidth! Hardware and software maintenance costs have risen, too. For the last 9 years the e.Lib and Archive have been a gift from the e.Librarian, but now the resources are running low.

Won't you consider helping with this project? We have signed up with Amazon.com to help us with the funding of the Archive. Donations are fast and easy. Just click on the link above, or look for a Donation box at the bottom of the left-hand menu of the Archive pages. As always, your credit card is secure and your privacy is protected at Amazon.com, as well as at the Rudolf Steiner Archive. Thank you all for visiting the Archive, and for your generosity.
. Theosophy. (as of 01/16/2001)
An Introduction to the Supersensible Knowledge of the World and the Destination of Man (Written 1904; GA 9)

Theosophy begins by describing the threefold nature of the human being: the body, or sense-world; the soul, or inner world; and the spirit, or universal world of cosmic archetypes. A profound discussion of reincarnation and karma follows, concluding with a description of the soul's journey through regions of the supersensible world after death. The book closes with an outline of the path to higher knowledge.
. The growing list of new lectures at the Archive. (as of 01/16/2001)
There is a growing list of new lectures in the Lectures Section — be sure to check back often to see the additions:
. New way to submit corrections to documents at the Archive. (as of 01/14/2001)
In the past, many kind souls have offered to proofread the documents presented at the Archive. But, there really wasn't a good method for doing this: communicating what a user sees in their browser window is a difficult task when all browser windows are different in size.

The solution was to provide a uniform method of communicating just what needs to be changed, and make it easy to use. We hope we have accomplished this here. Should you notice an error or typo in one of the documents, you can notify us by clicking on the “Make Corrections” link at the top right of each document's page, and then following four easy steps. Here's a link to the “Help” page.
. New lectures at the RS Archive — and a bonus! (as of 01/12/2001)
There are a couple of new lecture series' here, with more on the way. You can access them from the Lectures Section, or here: Cosmic and Human Metamorphoses, and The Bhagavad Gita and the Epistles of St. Paul (as a bonus, you can link to a version of The Bhagavad Gita from this lecture — or here). Take a look at the What's Coming! page to find out what items are on the way.
. New ways to access the documents in the Lectures Section. (as of 01/11/2001)
Not only can you access Steiner's lectures the old, alphabetical way, now you can access them by Lecture Date, GA Number, and Lecture Location! The Info box in the upper right portion of the Lectures Section pages now has links for all of these new features. So, if you can't remember what the lecture was called, but know the GA Number, Date, or Place, now you can find it. This feature is only for the lectures that are on-line here, at the Archive.
. Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and Its Attainment. (as of 01/09/2001)
(Written 1904 - 1905; GA 10)
Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and its Attainment constitutes a fundamental guide to the anthroposophical path of cognition or knowledge. In human consciousness, faculties are sleeping that, if awakened, lead to life-giving wisdom. With great clarity and warmth Rudolf Steiner details the exercises and moral qualities to be cultivated on the path to a conscious experience of supersensible realities.
